
Martin Potgieter, Head of Business Development
Martin Potgieter was appointed as Head of Business Development in January 2012.
He joined British American Tobacco in 1993 as a Trade Marketing and Distribution representative. Martin's extensive career at British American Tobacco has seen him hold various senior management roles within the company, including Key Accounts and Travel Retail Manager for the Africa and Middle East region. Thereafter, he moved to the UK, taking up the role of Head of Trade Marketing and Distribution for the British American Tobacco UK and Ireland business unit.
Martin returned to British American Tobacco South Africa in 2009 to head up Marketing Strategic Planning and Insights. More recently, his focus has been on combating the illicit trade in cigarettes. As Head of Business Development, Martin is primarily responsible for managing and overseeing the company's Anti Illicit Trade efforts within the Southern African Area.
Having worked in various teams across the business over the years, Martin is a firm believer in teamwork and people development.
Martin is married to Maritha and has two children.
